Text reads as follows:
His birth certificate says "female," his parents call him "daughter," and his mail comes addressed to "Amanda Jones." But despite his female body, Thomas wears men's clothes and reads men's magazines, and his greatest aspiration is to have his gender legally changed to male. To do that, he must have a doctor's recommendation and begin taking testosterone.
But Thomas lives for singing, and there's no telling what effect the testosterone will have on his voice.
So Thomas is caught between male and female, unable to decide if it's worth throwing away his family and his voice to live as a man.
That's when the contest comes to town, a karaoke tournament for drag kings. Thomas competes with the most talented girls-dressed-as-guys for the ultimate prize: a recording contract with the biggest label in the country. Thomas thinks he has decided: if he wins, he will keep his voice and go on doing what he loves. If he loses, he will take testosterone and become the man he always wanted to be.
But as he throws in his lot with the lesbians, bisexuals, transmen and genderqueers, Thomas's dilemma becomes anything but easier. In fact, he's not sure he wants to win the contest at all...
Male or female? Obscurity or fame? Will Thomas choose for himself or let the contest choose for him? Find out, in NUMBER ONE SINGING KING!
This sounds really interesting. I wish I could read it. Awesome job.

Oh god. If I saw this at the bookstore, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. XD I'm not really sure if that's a compliment to your entry or an insult to my level of sanity, but hey. I like it anyway. ^^ Please tell me you write and are finishing up this story as we speak.
